Message from our PTA President Michelle Douglas
Welcome to the 2014-15 school year at Franklin Middle School. My name is Michelle Douglas and I am the PTA President for the current school year.
Have you ever wondered where your membership dues and fundraising money go? The PTA arranges and pays for the cultural assemblies enjoyed by the students throughout the year; we give money to support the after school clubs that are available to any child attending FMS; we support our wonderful FMS Staff throughout the year with various events; we offer scholarships to local graduates that attended FMS; we fund the 8th grade farewell activities, and much more!
None of what we do is possible without the direct support of our PTA membership, volunteers, fundraising efforts and donations. ANY help, whether it the gift of time or financial support, is truly appreciated and makes a REAL difference. Please give what you can. Are you able to volunteer? This year not only can you volunteer for the PTA at one-time events and ongoing programs, the school is looking for volunteers to help out in the school. Specifically, the administration would like to have parents volunteering in classrooms, helping out in the cafeteria at lunch time and even walking the halls during classes. Any amount of time you can give would be appreciated.
Let us know what your schedule will accommodate and where your interests lie, and we will help you find the volunteer opening that fits you! Being a part of the PTA does not require a large amount of time. You help as little or as much as your schedule allows. But whatever you choose, PLEASE, join the PTA. You have received a membership form and information sheet in your summer mailing.
Our meetings are open to everyone. I want to stress that you do not have to be a PTA Board Member or PTA Chairperson in order to attend a meeting. We welcome new faces and new ideas! Meetings are held once a month at 7:00 p.m. in the school library (see Events page for exact dates). Our first meeting is scheduled for September 17th. After our first meeting the plan is to meet the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Please consider joining us. We'd love to meet more people and get a wider range of input into what we are doing and how effective we are. Help us to make the PTA a better vehicle to support the students and the school.
On behalf of the PTA Board of Directors, we hope you and your student(s) have a rewarding and successful school year!
